Mr & Miss Nature
"Promoting the aesthetics of nature in fashion for creating awareness”
Every element of fashion comes from nature. Fashion and textile designers have
plundered, mimicked, been influenced, and inspired by Mother Earth. But this
desire to transform ourselves through clothing has come at the cost of
exploitation of natural resources. From raw materials and chemical treatments
that contribute to air and water pollution to animals bred for the sole purpose of
being converted into bags and shoes, our quest to look a certain way has resulted
in untold damage to nature. Much work remains to be done in terms of conserving
natural resources in relation to fashion production.
VNC felt a need to start making the difference by helping and promoting fashion
not to be one of the most polluting industries in the world. VNC started an
the initiative “Mr & Miss Nature” in 2018, a fashion show to reflect on the concept of
fashion in the service of nature’s beauty and promote the great responsibility of
fashion to shape our world and encourages us to make fashion enjoyable and
sustainable again through nature. The initiative went on to explore how incessant
demand for raw materials – natural and man-made – has damaged the
environment, and led to the exploitation of both humans and animals.
Participants used the theme of nature and various environmental issues to
showcase their fashion that re-discovers, through art, and the beauty of Nature.
The initiative was successful and many influencers from the fashion industry from
Gujarat joined in. This initiative conveyed a message aimed to protect our world,
becoming the manifesto to help us develop a healthier relationship with nature in
our fashion choices.
