VNC is popularly recognised as organisers of the publicly cheered annual marathon in the mini-metropolis of Vallabh Vidhyanagar. GREENATHON has become the glorifying insignia of Voluntary Nature Conservancy (VNC) in the past decade. Thousands of participants varying from young students to the city dwellers in soaring numbers annually begin to prepare for this unique event months ago, gearing and preparing for the much-awaited annual marathon run, or bicycle participation aimed at encouraging healthy and sustainable well-being practices, and their adoption in everyday lifestyles of the citizens.
Greenathon is held on the first Sunday in February with the motto “Burn fat, Not Oil” in Vallabh Vidhyanagar. A hearty treat for everyone, the events include running, walking and cycling marathons and get around Fifteen hundred participants averagely each year and their numbers soaring. The motive behind this event is to spread environmental awareness among people, particularly highlighting the importance of physical workout, fitness alongside promoting sustainable lifestyle habits in society.
Sharp at 6 am annually on this day, an ocean of athletes, fitness enthusiasts and beginners of all age follow a blaring alarm on the marked roads. Woken up by a wave of the runners, Vallabh Vidhyanagar witnesses another wave of cyclists, and also walking, participating in this annual race with immense vigour, astonishing everyone watching and inspiring more eyes to participate.
