Save the Sparrow Project

Save the Sparrow Project

Overview

House Sparrows, once ubiquitous, have seen a sharp decline due to modern architecture and the loss of nesting sites. VNC’s project focuses on bringing these social birds back to our neighborhoods. We design and distribute scientifically-backed nest boxes and bird feeders, encouraging citizens to turn their balconies and gardens into sparrow sanctuaries.

Key Objectives

  • Distribute functional wooden nest boxes to urban households.

  • Conduct awareness workshops on bird-friendly gardening and pesticide reduction.

  • Monitor sparrow occupancy rates in various urban pockets.

Conservation Impact

Distributed over 5,000 nest boxes with an occupancy rate of 65%, successfully reviving sparrow colonies in Anand and Vidyanagar.
