Mitigating Human–Crocodile Conflicts

Mitigating Human–Crocodile Conflicts

Overview

As human populations expand near wetlands, encounters with crocodiles become frequent. VNC works to prevent conflict before it happens. Through science-based management, installation of safety barriers, and community-led response teams, we ensure that both people and crocodiles can safely coexist in the same landscape.

Key Objectives

  • Install 'Crocodile-Safe' bathing ghats and fencing in village ponds.

  • Train local 'Croc-Watch' volunteers to manage crowds during crocodile sightings.

  • Conduct rapid response and rescue operations for 'stray' crocodiles in residential areas.

Conservation Impact

Significantly reduced incidents of livestock loss and human injury through proactive community fencing and education.
