Anirudh Vasava

Project Coodinator

I joined Voluntary Nature Conservancy (VNC) in March 2012 initially as consultant then as Project Coordinator. My main responsibilities here include planning, implementing and managing various research and conservation projects. Currently I coordinate projects on Indian wolves, Indian wild ass and mugger crocodiles etc. I have a master’s degree in Environmental Science (2009). Previously I have worked as research biologist with Wildlife Institute of India with Dr Yadvendradev Jhala and Qamar Qureshi on the country wide population assessment of tigers, their prey and habitat across many landscapes of India. Following that, I joined another project ‘Reintroduction of Cheetah in India’ in the same institute. My current research projects at VNC have been supported by grants from Rufford Foundation (UK), Idea Wild (USA), and Indian Bird Conservation Network/Bombay Natural History society. In 2013 I received the Duleep Matthai Nature Conservation Fellowship for contributing towards conserving the mugger crocodiles of Charotar region in Gujarat, India. I am primarily a population biologist interested in large mammal ecology, behavior and conservation, especially large carnivores. My primary research interests include population estimation, human-wildlife conflicts, species distribution modelling, landscape ecology, spatial pattern of wild populations.
